"A Maltese-flagged, Greek-owned cargo ship was targeted and reportedly hit by a missile while crossing the Red Sea from south to north," Ambrey explained.
The ship, which had visited Israel since the start of the war in Gaza and was en route to Suez, reversed its route and was heading for a port, the report indicated.
Attacks in the Red Sea, including an American-owned cruise ship hit by another missile in the Gulf of Oman on Monday after the Houthis shot down a cruise missile targeting an American destroyer on Sunday, have followed US and UK strikes in the region and disrupted shipping on key sea routes.
