Natural gas prices in Europe fell below 100 euros per megawatt-hour, after the increase in LNG cargoes to the continent. The indicator price of natural gas with a 1-month maturity in the Netherlands had climbed to 180 euros per megawatt-hour on 21 December.
According to data compiled by Bloomberg, at least 15 cargo ships have left for Europe as of Thursday.
The amount of natural gas that Russia transfers to Germany's Mallnow compressor via Yamal has halved since Sunday. With the cooling of the weather and the decrease in natural gas transfers in Europe this week, the crisis in the energy market gradually deepened.
The 30 percent capacity of the Mallnow compressor, located in Germany and where the Yamal-Europe pipeline ended, was reserved by Gazprom with serial tenders last week. But Gazprom has halved the amount of gas it transfers through Yamal since Sunday, reducing it from 35 million cubic meters to 17 million cubic meters. The amount of natural gas transferred decreased to 9.25 million cubic meters on Wednesday.
The amount of natural gas transferred by Russia over Yamal was last reduced to these levels at the end of October and the beginning of November. In this process, natural gas prices increased from 64 euros per megawatt hour to 76 euros.
