Severstal has started supplying hot rolled products with a width of 725 millimeters and a zinc coating grade of 600 for the production of spiral corrugated pipes used in road construction. For a long time, rolled steel for this purpose was imported from Europe. In spring 2022, Cherepovets Steel Plant specialized in the production of this rolled steel at the request of one of its customers
Durable and lightweight
Metal corrugated pipes are lighter than reinforced concrete structures but are also very durable. Their use has significantly simplified, accelerated and reduced the cost of the process of construction and repair of culverts and small overpasses. The use of such a product provides a significant reduction in the weight of structures in comparison with reinforced concrete, which allows reducing logistics and installation costs, ensuring environmental friendliness and durability of objects.
Severstal's customers, including Dor MGK, are currently laminating hot-rolled coil steel for the production of spiral corrugated pipes. The pipes are supplied to the Moscow - Vladimir - Nizhny Novgorod - Cheboksary - Kazan high-speed highway project and a medium-term extension to Ekaterinburg (M12), as well as many other federal and regional projects.
Severstal officials note that demand for spiral corrugated pipes is growing and they expect 2023 to be a record year. This development will contribute to the acceleration of the construction of the M12 highway.
