China is cooperating with Saudi Aramco to set up a joint venture in Ras Al Khair, an industrial city with energy resources in eastern Saudi Arabia. Together with China's Baowu Steel Group, Saudi Aramco is preparing to launch its first flat steel production line, which will be used to meet growing domestic demand and then export to regional markets.
The plant's flat steel production capacity is estimated at 1.5 million tons per year. It was also announced that the plant will switch to low-carbon energy sources, including the use of gas energy, sponge iron and electric arc furnaces, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the production process by 60% compared to the traditional method.
