Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has signed a deal with Danieli to set up a modern bar mill in Durgapur, India. The turnkey project will feature advanced technologies and a new reheating furnace aimed at improving production efficiency and reducing costs.
The new bar mill will be equipped with innovative features such as a high-speed delivery system and controlled quenching technologies. This is aimed at increasing production capacity. The reheating furnace, which is a key part of the plant, will have a billet processing capacity of 220 tons per hour. Specially designed burners and a modern heating system will both improve billet quality and minimize scale formation and emissions.
The plant will be operated with Danieli’s automation systems and will offer an infrastructure that complies with Industry 4.0 standards. This technology will enable more precise and efficient control of production processes, helping SAIL maintain its competitiveness in the sector. The project is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2027. The new facility is seen as an important step in SAIL’s modernization efforts.
