Saarstahl Rail, the only company in Europe to market CO2-reduced rails, convinced the first-class jury in the category of circularity thanks to its well-established circular economy and therefore CO2-reduced production methods.
Dr. Nadine Artelt stated: “We are delighted to have won the award. Reputable international railway companies have relied on our products' high quality and environmental friendliness for years. This award is a confirmation for us,” and added “We are the only company in Europe, including Germany, that can bring about a real mobility transformation in the rail sector with our products.”
The concept of the economic cycle based on production in an electric arc furnace and Saarstahl Rail's recycling of used rails means that this optimized process produces 70% less CO2 emissions compared to blast furnace production using iron ore and coal as raw materials, as jury member Prof. Dr. Reinhold Kohler from Landshut University of Applied Sciences stated in the commendation.
Saarstahl Rail's "Sustainability Championship Award" award represents a leading example of sustainable development in the European rail industry. The company's sustainable production methods and extensive recycling program, which significantly reduce CO2 emissions, indicate a strong long-term commitment to an economically and environmentally sustainable future.
