Russia's coal production increase limited by export infrastructure constraints

In 2023, Russia is expected to produce 440 million tons of coal in total, while its production capacity is 570 million tons. Of this amount, 220 million tons is expected to be supplied to the local market.

Russia's current Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak pointed out that the infrastructure capacity for exporting the required products is limited, adding that the BAM (Baikal-Amur Main Line) and the Trans-Siberian Railway expansion project are being implemented.

According to the relevant data, the volume of transportation in Russia is expected to increase to 180 million tons in 2024 and 210 million tons in 2030, which is expected to increase the export of coal with the growth of railway capacity.
