Russia plans to mine manganese ore in Zaporizhia region

The development of the Bolshe-Tokmakskoye deposit in the Zaporizhia region will provide the Russian Federation with manganese raw materials, on the import of which the country depends.

Russia plans to mine manganese ore in Zaporizhia region

The manganese ore reserves in this deposit are estimated at 1.7 billion tons, which will allow Russia to reduce its dependence on imports and provide itself with the necessary raw materials.

The Russian strategy for the development of the mineral resource base until 2025 focuses on the integration of resources from the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, as well as the DPR and LPR. In addition to manganese ores, these regions contain significant reserves of coal (35.5 billion tons) and iron ore (3.5 billion tons), as well as rare and strategically important elements such as lithium, tantalum, niobium and titanium.

Earlier, in June, the European Union imposed a ban on the supply of manganese ores to Russia, which increased the country's dependence on imports of this raw material, according to the strategy for the development of the metallurgical industry until 2030.
