Employment in the global renewable energy sector has grown steadily since 2012, according to the Renewable Energy and Employment-Annual Assessment Report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Labor Organization (ILO).
THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN RENEWABLE ENERGY INCREASED BY 500K
The employment provided by the renewable energy sector in the world increased by 500 thousand last year compared to the previous year and reached 12 million.
While China ranks first in renewable energy with 4 million 700 thousand employments, 1 million 200 thousand people in Brazil, 838 thousand people in the USA and 726 thousand people in India got jobs in the sector. In the EU, 1 million 300 thousand people were employed.
As of the end of 2020, 4 million people have found employment in the solar sector in renewable energy worldwide. It was followed by wind energy with 1 million 250 thousand people and biofuel sector with 2 million 400 thousand people.
According to the report, 32 percent of global renewable energy employment last year consisted of women. It is estimated that 43 million people will be employed in the renewable energy sector by 2050.
