PT Lautan Baja Indonesia recently commenced operations at its facility in Banten, West Java. The company started production in mid-August with a hot strip mill with a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, producing HRC in thicknesses ranging from 1.5 to 18 mm and widths of 900 to 1,250 mm. The company’s shipments are mainly directed to the domestic market.
PT Lautan Baja Indonesia, a wholly owned subsidiary of PT Lautan Steel Indonesia, has ambitious plans for the facility. The company is set to invest IDR 7 trillion (USD 500 million) to develop the facility further. It also has a long-term goal of reaching an annual production of 3 million tons of finished flat products.
PT Lautan Steel Indonesia is already an established player in the sector. The company’s expansion into HRC production marks a significant step in its growth strategy.
Another Indonesian HRC producer, New Asia International, started operations earlier this year. Located in Sidoarjo, East Java, New Asia International has an annual capacity of 1.5 million tons.
