The Congress has called for a 'bandh' (shutdown) in the area during the Prime Minister's visit, alleging that the Modi government wants to privatize the steel plant located in Nagarnar village, about 22 kilometers from Jagdalpur in Bastar district.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for several development projects worth over 26,000 crore rupees in Jagdalpur, the divisional headquarters of the tribal Bastar division in Chhattisgarh. Raipur Akashvani correspondent reports that the Prime Minister will also dedicate the greenfield Steel Plant of NMDC set up at Nagarnar in Bastar to the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today dedicate to the nation the steel plant set up by the public sector National Mineral Development Corporation-NMDC at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh's tribal Bastar district. The integrated steel plant, built at a cost of around Rs 24 lakh crore, will produce high quality steel. This plant and its ancillary industries will create employment opportunities for thousands of people. With the commissioning of this plant, this tribal region, once notorious for Maoist activities, will now register its place on the world steel map.
