Pakistan's scrap and steel imports decline

The latest import data from Pakistan shows significant developments in the scrap and steel sector.

Pakistan's scrap and steel imports decline

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the country imported around 217,000 tons of scrap metal in June. This is a decrease of 14.4 % compared to the previous month of May and 6.6 % compared to the same period last year. The value of scrap imports amounted to USD 98.39 million, a decrease of 13.2 % compared to the previous month, but a remarkable increase of 62.4 % compared to the previous year.

In June, Pakistan's steel imports amounted to around 260,000 tons. This represents a decrease of 6.9% compared to the previous year, but an increase of 20.3% compared to May. The value of steel imports amounted to USD 174.91 million, a decrease of 15.5% compared to the previous year and an increase of 6.6% compared to the previous month.

These fluctuations in scrap and steel imports reflect the dynamic demand and market conditions in Pakistan's metals sector. The increase in steel imports correlates in particular with local construction activities and industrial demand.
