N.C.-based Nucor Corporation has announced plans to build a new pipe plant in Kentucky, at the same site of its Charlotte, Gallatin sheet metal plant. The company announced that it had invested $164 million to build the plant. The plant is expected to become operational in mid-2023, creating around 70 new full-time jobs.
Nucor recently announced its investments in its Gallatin plant, which aims to greatly expand the plant with the addition of a new galvanized line. The Gallatin campus was chosen as the ideal location for the new pipe mill as it could take full advantage of the new galvanized line. The plant will have the capacity to produce about 250,000 tons of hollow structural steel pipes, mechanical steel pipes and galvanized solar torque pipes.
Nucor Corporation's Vice President of Sheet Metal and Pipe Products Rex Query thanked Governor Beshear, Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development officials, and local officials in Gallatin County for their continued support of the new project.
The new pipe factory will help Nucor better serve its customers in the construction, infrastructure and renewable energy markets. The proximity to the expanding solar markets in the US and the largest consumption zones for HSS steel pipes make this an ideal location.
