Nucor Steel Company to invest in rebar production
Charlotte, whose N.C. central office is Nucor Corporation, announced that the company's Board of Directors has approved a project aimed at renovating its engineered rebar and bar mill in Nebraska. The project will equip the plant to better serve the automotive market and meet growing customer demand.
According to the company's press release, it plans to invest about $58 million in the proposed modernization project. Improvements include the installation of a new reheating furnace, a new intermediate mill and coil inspection and correction station. With the post-renovation works, the plant is expected to be operational in the last quarter of next year.
Once completed, the upgrades are expected to enhance the Nebraska plant's ability to produce engineered rod and roll products with improved surface quality and reduced decarburization. In addition to ensuring product diversity, it will also raise safety standards at the facility.
Regarding the investment, Nucor Corporation President and CEO Leon Topalian said the improvements made to the engineered rod plant in Nebraska are part of the company's efforts to continue increasing the number of tons it sells to the automotive market. The investment will align the product mix with current and future customer demand, strengthening Nucor as a leader in engineered rebar and coils.
