The company places great emphasis on new products, as noted by Oleg Tsyba, Business Development Director at TK "Novostal-M," during his speech at the 20th International Conference "Galvanized and Coated Steel: Production and Consumption Trends."
In particular, the company has introduced several types of specialized rebar. The latest innovation is galvanized rebar, with the first batch produced in February of this year.
According to Oleg Tsyba, such products will be in demand in the Russian market. There is already interest from road construction companies and bridge manufacturers. The company’s next goal is to implement a pilot project with an infrastructure developer, followed by the development of a national standard (GOST) for "Galvanized Steel for Reinforced Concrete Structures."
A major problem with reinforced concrete structures is cracking, which allows moisture and air to penetrate the concrete and cause rebar corrosion. This leads to structural deterioration before the expected service life ends. Galvanized rebar helps prevent this issue. Internationally, it is used in coastal areas and offshore platforms, with its share in total rebar consumption reaching up to 5% in some countries.
The Russian Ministry of Construction is currently developing a methodology for calculating the life cycle of buildings and structures. In this context, corrosion-resistant rebar could demonstrate its advantages. However, it may also face competition from substitutes such as fiberglass rebar.
