“The plant in India is already operating. We reached design capacity in the second quarter,” NLMK spokesman said, explaining that “installation and commissioning were delayed due to coronavirus-related restrictions, as well as additional local infrastructure changes.”
The plant specializes in the production of premium grades of transformer steel. Its annual capacity is 64 thousand tons of metal, and investments in the project are estimated at $150 million. NLMK Group localizes the final stages of production in India, such as electrical insulating coating, straightening annealing, cutting and laser processing of finished products.
In the summer of 2021, NLMK began assembling the steel structures of the new plant and initially planned to complete construction in the second half of 2022. Prior to launching its own production, NLMK held a 25% share of the Indian transformer steel market.
