Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree providing for additional measures to regulate the export of ferrous steel and non-ferrous scrap and waste of metals and cancelling the 2001 decree on the temporary suspension of such exports.
According to the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan must within three months increase or set customs duties on the export of scrap and waste of non-precious metals, including metal products that ultimately become unusable.
In order to prevent evasion of export duties, the Cabinet of Ministers should, within four months, set export duties or optimise existing duties on products from scrap metal processing and inform the President about it.
The Ministry of Economy should submit proposals to the Council of Ministers to meet the needs of metallurgical enterprises for ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap and waste.
These measures are aimed at increasing the amount of added value in the country, providing local processing enterprises with raw materials and deepening the processing process.
