Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the ceremony to open the dry coking coal production complex, blast furnace operation and vacuum arc and electroslag remelting furnaces.
Blast furnace No. 5 at Yenakiieve Steel, which has not been used since 2020, was put into operation. With the start-up of the furnace, it is planned that more than 1 million tonnes of steel can be melted annually. Yenakiieve Steel, part of the Southern Mining and Metallurgical Complex, has a full metallurgical production cycle, from sinter and pig iron production to commercial casting and production of hot-rolled square billets, long products and wire rods.
Ruspolymet launched vacuum arc and electroslag remelting furnaces in the Nizhny Novgorod region. With the commissioning of these furnaces, the company will be able to almost double its capacity to produce heat-resistant steels, alloys and finished products made of them. The company produces special steels, alloys and products for high-tech industries.
Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Plant (MMK) in the Chelyabinsk Region has commissioned a dry coking coal production complex. The complex covers the entire production cycle from receiving coal concentrates to transferring finished coke to the blast furnace workshop. The production volume of the new battery is 2.5 million tonnes of dry coke per year, which will meet half of MMK's demand for this product. Construction investments exceed one billion US dollars. The general contractor and equipment supplier is the Chinese Sinosteel.
