The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has announced the new car registration data for the EU countries for the month of March.
Accordingly, the continuation of the problems in the supply chain and the Russia-Ukraine war continued to negatively affect the production of new cars in European countries.
New automobile sales, which were 1 million 62 thousand 511 in March last year, decreased to 844 thousand 187 in the same period of this year. In the said period, new automobile sales in the EU decreased by 20.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
Compared to the same period last year, automobile sales among EU countries decreased by 30.2 percent in Spain, 29.7 percent in Italy, 19.5 percent in France and 17.5 percent in Germany.
Among the 27 EU member states, Germany had the highest number of new cars in March. During this period, 241 thousand 330 new cars were registered in Germany, 147 thousand 78 in France, 119 thousand 497 in Italy and 59 thousand 920 in Spain.
New commercial vehicle registrations in the EU decreased by 12.3 percent in January-March 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, to 2 million 245 thousand 976.
Thus, sales of new cars in EU countries have decreased since July last year.
According to the manufacturers, VW Group sold the most new cars in the EU in March with 203,919.
Stellantis Group followed VW Group in new vehicles in EU. Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel, sold a total of 168 thousand 421 cars.
Groupe Renault ranked third with 84,882 new cars.
