Mutares announces acquisition of Buderus Edelstahl from Voestalpine

Buderus Edelstahl, founded in 1731, is known for its production of high-quality specialty steels. The company produces a wide range of products including tool steel, engineering steel, forged and rolled products and supplies industries such as automotive, mechanical engineering, truck manufacturing and wind energy. Operating in Wetzlar, Germany, Buderus produces at its facility with an annual production capacity of 360 thousand tons.

Operating with 1,100 employees and 350 active customers, the company generated revenues of approximately 360 million euros in the fiscal year 2023/2024. While the acquisition is economically completed on January 31, 2025, the parties have not yet disclosed the financial details of the deal.

Mutares aims to strengthen its Engineering & Technology segment by acquiring Buderus' production strength and customer portfolio, while Voestalpine announced that it aims to reduce its share in the production of tool steel and high-quality engineering steel under price pressure by shifting its focus to high-performance metals and advanced technology materials.
