Morocco backs Maghreb Steel in pioneering four innovative projects

In a significant move towards industrial self-sufficiency, Morocco has announced plans to develop four new types of steel domestically. Maghreb Steel, the country’s leading steel manufacturer, in developing four innovative projects through the Industrial Innovation Support Program, funded by the Innovation Support Fund (FSI).
This initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on imported materials.

The Moroccan Ministry of Industry revealed that the new steel types will cater to various sectors, including construction, automotive, and renewable energy. By leveraging local resources and expertise, Morocco aims to boost its economic resilience and create job opportunities within the steel industry.

These projects include creating high-thickness self-weathering micro-alloy steels, a corrosion-resistant coating with a galvanizing simulator, weldable and bendable ballistic steel, and dual-phase steel for the automotive industry. The state will provide a grant of 114 million dirhams to support these initiatives, aiming to enhance local production and reduce reliance on imported steel.

Industry experts have lauded this development, highlighting its potential to position Morocco as a key player in the regional steel market. The project is expected to attract significant investment and foster innovation in steel production technologies.
