MKE Iron Erectors applies Waukesha autonomous rebar tying technology

MKE Iron Erectors, a construction contractor in the United States, has implemented autonomous rebar-tying technology to enhance productivity and ensure worker safety on a bridge project near Waukesha, Wisconsin. They employed the TyBOT machine, developed by Advanced Construction Robotics, a construction equipment provider based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

During a two-shift period in late April, the TyBOT completed 17,823 rebar ties for the IH-39 Structure B-11-166 bridge in Columbia County. MKE Iron Erectors' president, Barb Sheedy, expressed enthusiasm for being the first contractor in Wisconsin to utilize this innovative tool, emphasizing the benefits it provided in terms of timely project completion and worker well-being.

The TyBOT has already performed 3.5 million ties on more than 40 projects across 12 states, including Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin, since its introduction in 2018. Unlike the typical pace of 150-250 ties per hour by construction contractors, the TyBOT can achieve over 1,100 ties per hour.
