Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made a statement regarding the 25 percent limitation applied to prevent excessive increases in rents. Minister Tunç said, "As of September 1, we started the mediation period in rent cases. There will be no need to continue the 25 percent rent increase situation."
Minister Tunç stated the following regarding the 25 percent limitation:
"There will be no need for the 25 percent rent increase limit to continue"
"In order to prevent victimization due to excessive rent increases, it was limited to 25 percent in the Parliament. Afterwards, concerns about this increase continued and it was extended for another 1 year. It will end as of July, of course, the discretion of the legislator was in question in order to avoid an excessive increase at once. Our Parliament made such a decision in order to prevent tenants from being victimized. Of course, former tenants had complaints about rents. There were some questions. As of September 1, we started the mediation period in rent cases. There will be no need to continue the 25 percent rent increase situation.
" There are 129 thousand 259 applications across Turkey"
There are 129 thousand 259 applications to our mediators regarding rent disputes across Türkiye. If the mediator was not compulsory, all of these would have been transferred to the lawsuit. 69 thousand 239 of this number were resolved by agreement. When we think bilaterally, it means that 140 thousand people do not go to the courthouse. The discussions on this issue have also decreased significantly."
