Economic relations between the two countries were discussed during the meeting held in the US, where Şimşek was in the US for the G20, IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings. According to the statement, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, transportation and energy were evaluated, and the importance of lifting the existing restrictions in the field of defense industry was emphasized.
The parties exchanged views on the multi-dimensional development of Türkiye-US relations in line with the common political will of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump.
During the meeting, Türkiye's economic stabilization program was also briefed and joint steps that can be taken for the establishment of regional peace and stability were also discussed. Türkiye stated that the sanctions against Syria should be lifted, while Türkiye's role in ending the conflict in Ukraine and contributing to the peace process was conveyed.
