Minister Ozhaseki: No construction on fault fractures and fault lines

T.C. Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki pointed out that buildings built in accordance with the regulations emerged from the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş with very little damage and emphasized that they should act with zero tolerance for the construction of new buildings in accordance with the standards.

Minister Ozhaseki: No construction on fault fractures and fault lines

Özhaseki, speaking at the Earthquake Region Mayors Consultation Meeting, said that they have 4 red lines.

Özhaseki said, "First, no matter what, construction on fault lines and fractures is prohibited. Secondly, there will be no more construction in areas with liquefaction. Third, there will be a ban on building in stream beds, where the ground is not suitable. Fourthly, we will move to zero tolerance especially in engineering and construction works."

"Around 180 thousand tenders were made in the earthquake zone"

Giving information about the houses to be built in the earthquake zone, Özhaseki said, "It is really a great disaster. Thank God, we overcome these disasters and continue to recover. Here is the picture we are facing; although the number changes from time to time, since different criteria are determined regarding the beneficiaries, the numbers are given a little lower or a little higher. In our provinces in the earthquake zones, 872 thousand 59 independent units have been destroyed. This is 310 thousand buildings. This is not an easy number, it is really a very high number. The determinations, studies and planning here have been done very well until that stage. As a state, we probably need to build 680 thousand houses. We need to build more than 170 thousand places like warehouses and workplaces. In total, the number we face is around 850 thousand. We are facing such damage. But we will hopefully overcome them. In the first stage, around 180 thousand tenders were made. Their deliveries will be made perhaps in October, November or December. Our first rightful citizens will go to that region and live in those security houses."

In 1999, after the Marmara earthquake, Minister Özhaseki informed that the damage to the buildings built in accordance with the regulations implemented after the Marmara earthquake was very low, and reminded that approximately 300-350 people live in high-rise buildings. Özhaseki stated that municipalities should continue their work in accordance with zoning regulations, without making concessions to contractors whose only purpose is money, and paying attention to building and ground surveys.
