Russian steelmaker Metalloinvest announced that its subsidiary Ural Steel's blast furnace No. 2 was officially put into operation in December last year, with a daily production capacity of 2,000 tons of pig iron and a maximum capacity of 760,000 tons per year, after the upgrade.
The blast furnace, which No.3, is also scheduled to begin reconstruction in February 2021.
Nazim Efendiev, Chief Executive Officer of Metalloinvest, stated that the blast furnace improvement project can help reduce coke consumption, thereby reducing costs and reducing carbon emissions.
Blast furnace No. 2 will be fully loaded by the end of this year, with commercial pig iron production expected to reach 1.5 million tonnes and total pig iron production to rise to 2.7 million tonnes.
