The previous Group Collective Labor Agreements (CLA) between the Turkish Employers' Association of Metal Industries (MESS) and the Türk Metal, Birleşik Metal-İş, and Özçelik-İş Unions came to an end on August 31, 2023. The unions submitted their Group Collective Labor Agreement proposals to MESS on September 12, 2023, in accordance with Law No. 6356. Negotiations began on September 26 and 28.
Advance payment for the first time
In order to maintain the welfare of metal sector employees while negotiations for the new Group Collective Labor Agreement are ongoing, MESS decided to make advance payments to employees covered by the agreement for the period until the process is completed. Due to the fact that employees covered by the agreement would normally have to wait for a raise during the negotiation process, MESS, along with its members, made an important decision at the beginning of the Group Collective Labor Agreement negotiations. These payments will be offset from the accumulated differences when the agreement is signed. In light of these decisions, approximately 160,000 employees covered by the Group Collective Labor Agreement will receive advance payments for the first time in history as negotiations continue.
