While the 88th anniversary of the establishment of KARDEMİR, Türkiye's first integrated iron and steel factory, and the city of Karabük was celebrated with various events in the city, the statements of Karabük Governor Mustafa Yavuz drew attention. Governor Yavuz stated, "The steel power of iron brought Karabük into existence. There is a success story written with the industrialization move in these lands."
Founded on April 3, 1937 in line with the industrialization vision of the period, KARDEMİR became the symbol of heavy industry in Türkiye, while Karabük became the first city to gain province status with this investment. This step, which was an important milestone in the planned development process of the Republic, has an indelible place in Türkiye's industrial memory.
“A Story of Liberation, Not Establishment”
Stating that Karabük is one of the rare cities established not by war but by production, Governor Yavuz added: “Karabük was born in a place where steel production started in paddy fields. Our city adds value to Türkiye not only with its industry but also with its deep-rooted culture and social structure.”
Emphasis on Türkiye's Century and Sustainable Development
Governor Yavuz stated that KARDEMİR steers Türkiye's economy with its industrial production, qualified employment and contribution to exports and added that Karabük is in a breakthrough in fields such as culture, arts and tourism within the scope of the vision of Türkiye's Century.
Atatürk's Words Become a Guide
Governor Yavuz concluded his statement by reminding Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's words: “Societies that want to live comfortably without working, tiring and producing, first lose their dignity, then their freedom and then their independence. If the flue of KARDEMİR is smoking today, this is the work of vision and labor.”
On the occasion of the 88th anniversary, Yavuz expressed his gratitude to all the statesmen who contributed, especially Atatürk, and emphasized that they will continue to protect Karabük's industrial heritage.
