Malaysia's Eastern Steel Group has signed a contract with Italy's equipment supplier Danieli to purchase a technologically advanced slab caster to meet the demand for high-quality steel products in the country, which is currently entirely import-based.
The number 2 plate casting machine will be able to produce plates of various grades, including low carbon grade products for automotive applications, API for pipelines, etc.
The sheet will be 200 mm thick and 700 to 1,300 mm wide, with a casting speed of up to 2.5 meters per minute.
The new slab caster, with an annual production capacity of 1.6 million tons, was expected to start production at the beginning of 2023.
