A more than 10% increase in low-carbon metal production is projected.
Aluminum production is said to generate about 1.1 billion tons of global CO2 emissions annually. However, more and more industries are investing in the so-called "green aluminum". This transition could reduce global CO2 emissions by around 1.2%, or 13 million tons. Analysts see this as a big step in the right direction.
Governments around the world are putting significant pressure on aluminum producers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Some even provide incentives for producers to increase production of the low-carbon alternative. Recent estimates show that "green" aluminum emits less than 4 tons of CO2 per tonne of metal.
