This technology provides an in-line plate cooling system designed to achieve the cooling rates and temperature drops required for plates of different product sizes. This will expand the product range and improve the product quality of the plates.
Sandip Biswas, CEO of Liberty Primary Steel and Mining, said: "This state-of-the-art accelerated cooling installation represents another milestone in Liberty Galati's strategy to expand its portfolio of high value-added products and improve its production flexibility and profitability. The accelerated cooling system is essential for modern plate mills like the one in Galati to produce higher strength and value-added grades that require higher cooling rates and higher cooling precision. The project will be completed next year and will enable us to respond to our customers' demands for higher value and quality products."
Primetals Technologies will design and supply the complete in-line plate cooling system, consisting of three benches, each six metres long. The benches consist of a total of 12 heads and the height of each head can be adjusted between 500 and 1,500 millimetres to ensure ultra-precise cooling of each plate. The heads and water pipes are made of stainless steel, guaranteeing long equipment life and a reduction in total lifetime emissions.
Ajay Aggarwal, President of Liberty Steel Group Europe and Chairman of Liberty Galati, said: "We are continuing our transformation to green steel as we modernise and further develop our operations. Our investment in this new unit is another step by our Galati team towards our long-term goals. On this path, we are pleased to collaborate with partners with the highest expertise, such as Primetals Technologies, which has developed some of the most advanced cooling technologies."
