The Indian government decided to launch an investigation due to increasing concerns about steel imports in the domestic industry. Steel producers have conveyed their concerns to various ministries, including steel and commerce, over the significant increase in steel imports from certain countries such as China and Vietnam.
The Ministry of Steel held a meeting to evaluate India's import situation. The meeting was led by steel secretary Nagendra Nath Sinha and the discussion was attended by representatives from various steel companies as well as a number of ministry officials.
The Steel Ministry official stated that they conveyed their observations to the ministry about the steady increase in steel producers' imports from countries such as China and Vietnam, despite the availability of similar steel types in India.
