According to Dirjen Suprijanto, society's housing need is increasing. This demand needs to be responded to with a fast and high-quality response. Karakatau - PUPR cooperation and the new capital project
In accordance with the instructions of PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Krakatau Steel is also expected to cooperate with the PUPR Ministry in supporting infrastructure development and housing construction programs.
Apart from this, there is a great need for steel components in infrastructure development in East Kalimantan (IKN), the capital of Indonesia. Because in August 2019, it was announced that Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, would be moved to the East Kalimantan province on Borneo Island. Later, after the pandemic period, at the beginning of 2022, the Indonesian parliament announced that it would evaluate the new capital issue, which was brought to the agenda again a while ago. He gave the green light to the move of the capital from Jakarta to Borneo, which was brought forward by President Joko Widodo.
Indonesia's Ministry of Planning has approved a bill that would move the capital from densely forested Jakarta to the less developed and forested East Kalimantan region on the island of Borneo.
It was decided that the name of the new capital would be Nusantara, which means archipelago in Javanese and emphasizes Indonesia's official motto, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, meaning "unity born of diversity". On the other hand, the cost of the move, which is seen as Widodo's "Mega Project", may exceed 30 billion dollars. The implementation of the project was planned to start next year.
