Kenya has launched construction work for a KES 50 billion steel mill in Mariakani, Kwale County, with the support of Devki Group.
The mill, expected to be the second largest in Africa after the South African Iron and Steel Industrial Corporation, will create 1,000 jobs and have an annual production capacity of around 500,000 tons of steel used in construction and manufacturing. The mill could also export to neighboring countries, as Kenyan steel imports are estimated at around KES 80 million, mainly from China.
