JFE Steel Corporation announced that it will invest approximately 70 billion yen (approximately 480 million USD) to build a new continuous galvanizing line (CGL) at its West Japan Works facility in Fukuyama, Japan. The line, which is scheduled to be operational in October 2028, aims to produce 360,000 tons of alloyed hot-dip galvanized steel sheets per year, meeting the demand for ultra-high-strength steel in the automotive sector.
The automotive industry is turning to lightweight and durable materials due to tightening environmental regulations, higher fuel efficiency and safety standards. JFE Steel’s advanced technology products, such as the JEFORMA® series, reduce vehicle weight without compromising structural integrity and safety.
The company’s new investment also stands out with production methods that increase the sustainability of steel. In particular, the electric arc furnace (EAF) technology, which reduces carbon emissions by using recycled scrap steel, positions steel as an environmentally friendly solution.
The rise of electric vehicles (EV) and the growth of automotive production in the Asia-Pacific region are increasing demand for the steel sector. This expanding market, led by China, India, Japan and South Korea, supports the need for innovative steel solutions.
