Japan's company JFE Steel Company has closed its 100-year-old blast furnace.
In the statement made by JFE Steel, the reason for the closure of the blast furnace was explained as the decrease in domestic steel demand and the intensification of competition in exports.
The Kawasaki coastal area, where the blast furnace was located, was known as one of Japan's three major industrial areas. Kawasaki city government and JFE Steel were planning to convert the large area into a hydrogen base through a joint project to meet decarbonization demands.
