According to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japan's steel production decreased by 3.2% m-o-m and 4% y-o-y to around 6.9 million tons in August. In the same period, pig iron production increased slightly by 0.6% on a monthly basis, while total output decreased by 4% on an annual basis to 5.2 million tons.
In the first eight months of 2024, Japan produced a total of 56.7 million tons of steel, down 3% year-on-year. Pig iron production fell by 3.5% year-on-year to 41 million tons.
