According to customs data, Japan's scrap exports increased by 9% in the first three quarters of 2023 compared to 2022 and were recorded at 5.1 million tons.
Among these exports, exports to South Korea constituted the largest share with 2.14 million tons, decreasing by 10% annually. Exports to Vietnam ranked second with approximately 1.12 million tons, increasing by 6.6% annually. Exports to Taiwan increased by 78% year-on-year to 742,000 tons.
In September 2023, Japan exported 525,000 tons of scrap, a decrease of 16% compared to the same period in 2022.
