Japan's scrap exports increased slightly year-on-year in July 2024. According to statistics, Japan's scrap exports in July amounted to about 570,000 tons, up 0.7% from the same month a year earlier.
Most of this increase was driven by a 68% surge in exports to Vietnam, reaching around 1.5 million tons. On the other hand, exports to South Korea and Taiwan fell by 46% and 31% year-on-year to 959,000 tons and 402,000 tons, respectively.
In the first seven months of the year, Japan's total scrap exports amounted to around 3.8 million tons, down 6.5% year-on-year. These data show a general downward trend in Japan's scrap exports.
