Japan’s galvanized steel sheet imports increased significantly in July, reaching 125,000 tons. According to Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data, this amount increased by 27.2% compared to the previous month and 25% compared to the same period last year, reaching the highest level of the year.
South Korea emerged as the leading supplier with its deliveries to Japan in July. Imports from South Korea increased by 25% compared to the previous month and 29% compared to the same period last year, reaching 84,000 tons. China became Japan’s second-largest supplier with 32,000 tons.
On the other hand, Japan exported 164,000 tons of galvanized steel sheets in June. However, this amount decreased by 4% compared to the previous month and 14% compared to the same period last year. The gap between Japan’s galvanized sheet imports and exports continues to narrow due to low domestic demand.
