İzmir is a pioneer in Wind Energy

In March, Turkey's installed wind power exceeded the level of 11,400 Megawatts.

İzmir is a pioneer in Wind Energy

İzmir Effect on Wind Energy: Energy Industrialists and Businessmen Association (ENSİA) Chairman of the Board Alper Kalaycı made statements regarding the installed power of wind energy.

Emphasizing that all four wind turbine blade factories, four of seven tower factories and a single generator factory in Turkey produce in Izmir, Kalaycı said, “I should add that Izmir is home to the first and only R&D center of our country that focuses on wind energy. There is no other city in the world that focuses and clusters so heavily in the wind energy sector. And it gives us all great pride to see this success happen in just 22 years.”

The Effect of Wind Energy on Export
Noting that nearly 40 companies operating in the wind energy sector in İzmir have exported over 400 million dollars, ENSİA President Alper Kalaycı emphasized that this amount corresponds to 5 percent of the exports from İzmir. Kalaycı added that the most comprehensive inventory and data analysis study of the sector was carried out with the Best ForEnergy project, of which ENSİA and İzmir Development Agency are a stakeholder, and continued:

“This project, which has been awarded a grant of 3.1 million Euros from the European Union, is preparing to complete its 36-month period. Within the scope of this project, all the details of which company produces what in the renewable and clean energy sector, especially wind energy, their comparative advantages, their strengths and areas open to improvement, and which macro policies Turkey should implement in this sector, have all been revealed. Based on these analyses, it is understood that İzmir has a magnificent potential in offshore wind energy, which the whole world is watching carefully.

With the Çandarlı Port having a free zone structuring focused on the wing, tower and equipment production of offshore WPPs, İzmir; It can be by far the leading producer of the Aegean, Black Sea and Mediterranean basins. With this production alone, it can achieve billions of dollars of additional export success. For this, our capital power, engineering know-how and, above all, our human resources are ready. Our only shortcoming is that we have a place right next to the sea, as in many other examples in the world.

DenizüstüRES Production Center
Çandarlı Port, which could not be completed even though it has been 12 years since its foundation was laid, offers Turkey a unique opportunity for this production. Çandarlı can be the production address of both the power plants to be established in our own territorial waters and the great potential in nearby geographies. We can crown this great clustering synergy as the production center of offshore RES and achieve export success of billions of dollars.

While Turkey's installed power of electrical energy from all sources is 104 thousand MW, our potential installed power is only 75 thousand MW in offshore RES, according to World Bank data. There can be no comparison that better describes the enormity of the potential ahead and the opportunity at our disposal.”

The Need for Renewable Energy Exporters' Association
ENSİA Chairman of the Board Alper Kalaycı noted that the renewable energy sector is looking forward to the completion of the "Renewable Energy Equipment and Service Exporters' Association" project, which is under preparation within the Aegean Exporters' Association (EIB). Stating that the lack of an exporter's union focusing on the sector resulted from the fact that Turkey's potential in this area was not fully understood, Kalaycı pointed out that exports from different unions and sectors should be consolidated together.
