According to the data collected by SteelRadar, steel exports to Italy amounted to 794,196 tons in the January-August period of 2024. The export volume, which was 337,142 tons in the same period last year, increased by 135.6%, making Italy Türkiye's top steel export destination. The highest exports between 2020-2024 were recorded this year, while the lowest exports were recorded last year.
In August, 106,216 tons of steel were exported to Italy, compared to 39,084 tons in the same month last year. After Italy, Romania was Türkiye's second largest market with 766,262 tons of steel exports. Steel exports to Romania increased by 123.8% this year, compared to 342,420 tons in 2023. Yemen came in third place, with Turkey's steel exports to Yemen increasing by 7.2% from 449,780 tons in 2023 to 482,311 tons this year.
Four-year record
Steel exports to Ukraine broke the record of the last four years with 407,418 tons in 2024. This number was 266,858 tons in the previous year. From 2021 to 2024, exports to Ukraine increased by 643.1%.
Exports to Spain and Yemen increased
Türkiye's steel exports to Spain increased from 139,577 tons in 2023 to 401,921 tons in 2024. Spain was followed by Greece with 389,362 tons. Exports to Greece increased by 117.3% from 179,160 tons last year to 389,362 tons this year.
On the other hand, Türkiye's steel exports to Morocco decreased by 36.8% from 387,019 tons in January-August 2021 to 244,314 tons this year. While exports to Iraq were 225,916 tons in 2021, they decreased by 0.3% to 225,228 tons this year. The year with the highest increase in exports to the Middle East was recorded as 2022.
General situation
Türkiye's steel exports in the January-August period increased by 74.2% to 707,976 tons, up from 406,334 tons in the same period last year. This increase is considered as an important milestone in Türkiye's steel exports.
