Erdal Bahçıvan, President of Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), reacted to the electricity hikes. Making a written statement, Bahçıvan said that the hike will disrupt the belief in the fight against inflation.
Stating that the fight against inflation is going through a very critical process at the point of entering the disinflation process, Bahçıvan said that everyone needs to make the maximum sacrifice in order to ensure faith in the society in this struggle and that this effort and sacrifice is seen in all segments of the society.
Bahçıvan said, "However, in this sensitive period, I consider such a large hike of nearly 40 percent in electricity, even if it has justified justifications, as carrying one more water to the mill of inflationary approaches, which is the most unpleasant habit of recent years." Bahçıvan added, "I think that these large increases in electricity at once will make every institution and person, whether affected or not, lose direct faith in the fight against inflation and leave a negative mark and perception for the future. This hike disrupts the belief in the fight against inflation."
Bahçıvan pointed out that if success is desired in the fight against inflation, such loaded times should no longer be on the agenda at once, and said, "I would like to share our concerns that it would be much more correct to do this by spreading it over a certain period of time, otherwise similar ones may follow one after another."
