Iskenderun, the heart of iron and steel, is having hard times

While thousands of buildings in 10 provinces were destroyed due to earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, we lost nearly 13 thousand citizens. While the number of injured and deceased citizens is increasing, the development of the region will take a long time…

Iskenderun, the heart of iron and steel, is having hard times

Many stakeholders of the sector, especially Yolbulan, Tosçelik, Baştuğ, Ekinciler, Koç, İsdemir, MMK Metalurji, are located in the Hatay İskenderun region, where Turkey's largest steel producers are located. Regarding the condition of the factories, although there is no destruction, there are minor damages. Due to the damage on the roads, the fire in the Iskenderun port and many logistics problems, it seems impossible to continue domestic and international activities from the region for a while. People's lives are the priority in the region, which accounts for almost one fourth of Turkey's steel production.

Since the priority for the authorities of the industrial establishments in the region is the safety of the factory personnel and citizens, aid has been mobilized.

Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyalı Holding;

Fuat Tosyalı has been working day and night with the entire Tosyalı Holding Family and public/private organizations physically in the field and in Iskenderun, Osmaniye and the wider earthquake zone since 8 am on Monday. Tosyalı, which provides support in the earthquake zone with its construction equipment, and a team of approximately 1000 people, put into service the earthquake-affected citizens and their personnel.

Employees of MMK Metalurji, which employs approximately 1,600 people in total, 1,298 of which are in the Hatay Dörtyol facilities, were also affected by the earthquake.

MMK Metalurji, headquartered in Hatay Dörtyol, has opened its factory doors and hosts the families of its employees and employees who were damaged by the earthquake. Since February 6, the day of the earthquake, MMK Metalurji continues to provide support to its employees and their families, such as shelter/accommodation, food, hot water and medical care at the Dörtyol factory.

As of yesterday, it sent its personnel, who received search and rescue training after the earthquakes in Kardemir, to the disaster area in coordination with the Karabük Governorate and AFAD. In addition, it provided the delivery of construction machinery and technical equipment to be used in search and rescue works.

In addition to all these, all the remaining factories and their authorities continue to mobilize all their resources for the earthquake zone.
