The 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit 10 provinces also caused great destruction in Hatay. While many buildings were destroyed in the center and districts of Hatay due to the earthquake, many of them were damaged.
The tremors continue in 10 provinces, mainly in Hatay, Malatya, Adıyaman, Kilis, Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır. President Erdoğan announced the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquake as 912, while more than 5 thousand of our citizens were injured.
The second largest earthquake in the history of the Republic
The 7.7 earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş was recorded as the second largest earthquake in the history of Turkey after the 1983 earthquake in Erzurum. In the Erzurum earthquake that took place on October 30, 1983, 1,155 people lost their lives, 537 people were injured, 3,241 houses were severely damaged, 3 thousand houses medium and 4 thousand houses lightly damaged, and more than 30 thousand animals perished.
