Mauritania and Algeria aim to become one of the leading countries in the industry by increasing their iron ore production.

While Algeria's target for 2026 is 40-50 million, Mauritania's target is known as 24 million tons of iron production. Gara Djebilet reserves, which represent one of the largest iron ore reserves in the world, are estimated to be 3.5 billion tons, and it is stated that 1.7 billion tons of this can be extracted. Ahmed bin Abbas, Director of the Algerian National Steel Company, a steel company owned by the Algerian state, stated that the authorities will be able to produce 40-50 million tons of ore per year, with the establishment of a 1000 km railway connection, the mine will be connected to Bechar province. The company is preparing for an agreement to supply 500 thousand tons of iron ore to China.

Mauritania will compete with Turkey in production

It is reported that there are around 300 million tons of iron mines in Mauritania. He stated that he aimed to double the iron production in Mauritania, which is the second largest country in the African continent in iron production. Societe National Indurstrielle et Miniere (SNIM) aims to double its iron production with 24 million tons by 2026, and to be ahead of Turkey in the list of the world's 20 largest iron ore producers.
