According to new data released by the Pilbara Port Authority (PPA), iron ore exports to China from Port Hedland, Western Australia's largest iron ore shipping terminal, increased 19.5% month-on-month in August to 40.7 million tons. This represents an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period last year.
PPA data shows that this recovery trend is also reflected in Hedland's total iron ore shipments worldwide. Total shipment tonnage increased by 10.9% month-on-month to 47.9 million tons in August. Australia's major iron ore producers increased ore shipments to global destinations as weather conditions improved.
Iron ore shipments to China totaled 40.7 million tons (+6.6 million tons, +19.5%) in August, accounting for 85.1% of total shipments from Port Hedland.
