Iraqi PM leads efforts to revive Basra's steel industry

In a bid to jumpstart Basra Governorate's steel industry, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani spearheaded a crucial meeting  to address hurdles stalling the rehabilitation of the General Iron and Steel Company. This initiative, aimed at resuscitating a sector dormant since 2003, has been marred by delays despite its scheduled opening two months prior.

Al-Sudani, at the helm of the meeting, delved into a comprehensive review of the project's status, dissecting procedures executed by implementing bodies. With a firm resolve, he stressed the imperative of surmounting technical barriers and expediting the installation of essential smelting equipment, systems, and production lines. His insistence on adhering to predefined timelines echoes his earlier directives during a March visit, wherein he inaugurated the rolling mill.

In tandem with the government's unwavering commitment to circumvent impediments, discussions have ensued regarding the establishment of an integrated industrial hub dedicated to iron and steel production. Nestled within the Basra Economic Capital project, this envisioned industrial city, slated for the State Company for Iron and Steel (SCIS) premises, promises to for Basra's future prosperity.
