Iran's steel activist calls for global pricing to revive market

Addressing Iraq's imposition of duties on Iranian rebar imports, Majdi views it as a temporary economic policy and urges Iran to explore alternative markets to enhance resilience.

Iran's steel activist calls for global pricing to revive market
Iran's Steel industry activist Mohammadreza Majdi suggests a solution to lift the steel market out of recession by proposing the calculation of billet prices based on the global market. He attributes the imbalance in the steel chain to the absence of a clear pricing basis in various sections, leading to a deep recession. Majdi emphasizes the need for pricing alignment with the global billet price, considering the challenge posed by a multi-rate currency.

Commenting on Iraq's imposition of duties on Iranian rebar imports, Majdi sees it as a temporary economic policy, urging Iran to seek alternative markets for increased resilience. He points out a weakness in the government sector's role in expanding export markets, citing Türkiye's takeover of the Syrian market instead of Iran.

Majdi underscores the importance of the housing sector's development for the steel market's prosperity. Despite Iran being the tenth-largest global steel producer, he believes that thriving in the domestic market, emerging from recession, and expanding export markets can elevate Iran's position in the world steel industry.
