Iran: "Misunderstandings with Azerbaijan have disappeared"

According to Iran's semi-official Tesnim News Agency, Kalibaf, who returned to his country after the 13th General Assembly of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Antalya, made a statement to the press at the airport about his contacts in Turkey.

Describing the visit to Turkey as "intense and productive", Kalibaf stated that during the APA meeting, issues related to energy transportation and transit between the 3 countries were discussed during the trilateral meeting between the presidents of the Iranian, Azerbaijani and Turkish parliaments.

Stating that negotiations were held with Turkey and Azerbaijan for North-South and East-West transit routes, Kalibaf said, "It was decided to hold trilateral meetings and talks with the ministers of foreign affairs and defense at the level of leaders on transportation, transit passes and trade." 

Referring to the recently strained relations between Tehran and Baku, Kalibaf said, "Some misunderstandings that occurred recently with the Republic of Azerbaijan have also decayed."

Noting that he will visit Baku soon, Kalibaf informed that it has been decided to continue the talks between the two countries.

Tensions between the Iranian government of Iran and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian occupation after the end of the last period, Azerbaijan's comments at the border by Tehran and carried out large-scale military exercises led to tension between the two countries.

During this process, the state media of Tehran and Baku also included publications in which the two countries targeted each other.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made a statement on the issue on November 5th, 2022: "We are concerned about some unfriendly comments and opinions expressed against Azerbaijan in the Iranian media." 

Orders between 16 November 2022 in interviews with Iranian Foreign Minister, Hussein abdullahiya Bayramov, "and strengthening of relations of the two countries for the elimination of possible misunderstandings of maintaining communication between the authorities and institutions with an emphasis on the need" 

During the APA 13 General Assembly held in Antalya, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Sahibe Gafarova and Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bakir Kalibaf Decamped together. Şentop said at the meeting, "We should unite our forces and make all the efforts we can for the establishment of regional and global peace."
